Information
-
This B1 Norwegian course is suitable for students who already know the basics of Norwegian and want to become more independent, confident and accurate when communicating.
The course is ideal for adults who have completed A2, or who have Norwegian skills equivalent to A2 level. It is relevant if you want to use Norwegian more effectively at work, in education, in everyday life or when communicating with public services.
At B1 level, you move from basic communication towards expressing opinions, explaining experiences, talking about plans and taking part more actively in conversations in Norwegian.
-
At B1 level, you will learn to understand and use Norwegian in a wider range of practical and social situations. You will build on A2 with more advanced vocabulary, better grammar, longer sentences and more speaking practice.
By the end of the course, you will work towards being able to:
- understand the main points in clear speech and texts about familiar topics
- talk about work, education, family, free time and everyday life
- take part in conversations about familiar topics
- explain experiences, plans, wishes and opinions
- give simple reasons for your views
- write simple, connected texts about familiar topics
- understand and use more varied grammar
- communicate in most common everyday situations in Norway
- continue preparing for the Norwegian language test at B1 level
The goal is to help you use Norwegian more naturally, independently and actively in situations that matter to you.
-
The course combines speaking practice, listening exercises, reading, writing, pronunciation, grammar and practical language use. You will work with tasks that help you use Norwegian in realistic situations from work, education, society and everyday life.
The course is taught in small groups, usually with 3–6 students. This gives you more speaking time, closer follow-up and better opportunities to receive specific feedback from your teacher.
Your teacher will help you develop fluency, accuracy and confidence, while also supporting you in correcting common mistakes and using Norwegian more naturally.
-
At B1 level, it is important to have enough time to speak, discuss and express your own opinions. This is why small groups are a major advantage.
In a small class, you get:
- more speaking time in every lesson
- more individual attention from the teacher
- more opportunities to ask questions
- more active conversation practice
- better practice with pronunciation, fluency and grammar
- a safe environment to express yourself more independently
- better progression towards B1 and, eventually, B2
This is especially useful if you understand some Norwegian but still find it difficult to speak fluently and accurately.
-
Yes. The course gives you a strong language foundation for further preparation for the Norwegian language test at B1 level.
You will work with skills that are relevant for the test, including spoken communication, listening, reading comprehension, writing, grammar and vocabulary.
However, the course does not guarantee a specific test result. Your progress will depend on your previous knowledge, attendance, personal effort and how much you practise between lessons.
-
B1 is an important level for many learners who want to use Norwegian more actively in working life, education or society in general.
At B1 level, you can often handle many common situations in Norwegian, explain opinions and experiences, and participate more independently in conversations.
If you are applying for Norwegian citizenship or permanent residence, you should always check the current requirements directly with UDI. The requirements may depend on factors such as age, residence status, application date and which official tests you have passed.
-

-
Yes. You will receive a course certificate after completing the course, provided that you have at least 80% attendance.
The certificate shows the course level and the number of teaching hours completed. It can be used as documentation for employers, schools, educational institutions or others who need confirmation of completed Norwegian language training.
-
The B1 course can help you build the language skills you need for further progression and preparation for official Norwegian language tests.
Language Power International AS is an HK-dir approved provider of Norwegian language training, and our course certificates document completed training. However, UDI has its own requirements for permanent residence and Norwegian citizenship, and these requirements often involve passing official tests in Norwegian and social studies.
We therefore recommend checking the latest requirements directly with UDI before applying.
